TUESDAY 6 DECEMBER AT 7PM MEMORIAL 111
As has been known since Valerie Eliot published the Waste Land drafts in 1971, T.S. Eliot's most famous poem originally included a great deal of material that was later cut or revised on the advice of Ezra Pound. The members of seminar 636-010 (The Waste Land and Its Sources) have been working this semester on the various materials that went into the 1922 publication. On 6 December they will present a reading, with music, of the complete Waste Land drafts. Come and decide for yourself whether Pound was right: are we better off without the drunken night on the town, the satire on literary hostess Fresca, the narrative of the disastrous whaling voyage, and other bits that ended up on the cutting room floor?
The reading is free and open to the public. It will be followed by refreshments.
