Students with an interest in the study of literature are invited to minor in English, no matter what their major. The 18 hours of coursework focus on understanding and writing about literary texts, gaining a critical vocabulary, and improving one's analytic and historical understandings of literature and its cultural contexts.

Minor Requirements
for students who enter the University before Fall 2007 (old)

ENGL 202 Biblical and Classical Literature
ENGL 205 British Literature to 1660
ENGL 206 British Literature 1660 - Present
ENGL 324 Shakespeare
Two courses at the 300- or 400-level distributed as follows:
A course in American literature
A course in British literature OR cultural and theoretical studies


English Minor Requirements
for students who enter the University Fall 2007 or later (new)
(effective 9/1/2007)


Students must take the following courses (18 hours total):
ENGL 101 Tools of Textual Analysis
ENGL 102 Texts in Time
ENGL 204 American Literature
ENGL 205 British Literature to 1660
ENGL 206 British Literature 1660-Present
Three additional English credits (one course) at the 300-level or above
