Our Mission Statement
The University Writing Program supports the academic mission of the University of Delaware by helping students learn to reason critically and independently yet collaborate productively, to communicate clearly in writing, and to develop into informed citizens and leaders. To these ends, our writing courses emphasize reading and thinking critically; performing research in an increasingly global information market; addressing the expectations of specific audiences; and improving writing through a process that includes critical response to drafts and the opportunity to revise extensively. Students and instructors work together to practice skills of writing and habits of mind that are of vital and lasting importance to today's scholars and citizens.
