* * * * * * English Education Search Committee: Deb Alvarez (Chair), Deb Bieler, Heyward Brock, Carol Henderson Assistant Professor or Instructor - Continuing Non-Tenure Track The Department of English seeks applications for an assistant professor or instructor to work in the English Education program (Grades 7-12). A doctorate in English, English education, or education is required for appointment at the rank of assistant professor. All candidates must demonstrate the following qualifications: excellence in teaching English Language Arts in the secondary schools for a minimum of three years, a commitment to mentoring future teachers, strong interpersonal and communication skills, familiarity with best practices in teacher preparation and mentoring, The following qualifications are preferred but not required: experience in both senior high school and middle school, administrative experience, previous mentoring of pre-service or in-service teachers, college teaching experience. The successful candidate will teach courses in secondary-school English/language arts pedagogy, develop new courses in areas such as Adolescent Literature and Media Literacy, mentor student teachers and oversee other mentors, select and prepare classroom teachers to work with pre-service teachers, make student teaching placements, and serve on the English Education advisory committee. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to engage in other teaching, committee work, and professional development activities in accord with his or her qualifications and interests. This position is a permanent position; it is based upon multi-year contracts, offering parity of salary and benefits with tenure-track faculty.
