Independent StudyStudents who wish to take an independent study must make arrangements with a faculty member who agrees to supervise their project. Independent study allows a student to delve into a particular topic through research or other creative activities; the experience is particularly valuable for students planning to pursue graduate study. Most students work with a faculty member whom they already know from previous coursework. Once a student has arranged the independent study with a faculty member, the student works with the faculty member to determine the level of the work and register for ENGL 266, 366, or 466 accordingly.
