Assignments for 6 March

Homework: Please bring to class, on one sheet that will fit on the overhead projector, an example of a page or an image (a photograph, drawing, chart, diagram, or the like) that you find either well (or poorly) designed. Web and print sources are both appropriate; just make sure you note your source. The subject of the visual is up to you (within the bounds of decency, of course) and can be in or out of your major. Use your reading of chapters 7 and 8 to develop criteria to support your judgment. Be prepared to show the visual and explain that judgment to the class. Any of the quick copy services can make the visual for you from your original, or you can make it yourself on a photocopy machine after purchasing the blank sheet. If you have problems making a copy, let me know.

Peer Editing of Assignment 3: Bring to class, too, an electronic version of Assignment 3 for peer editing and final submission by 5 pm. That version may be an e-mail attachment or on a floppy disk. Computers in the lab do not have zip drives.

Revising: A General Note

Anyone receiving a "C" on an assignment is encouraged to revise it for regrading. Others are also welcome to do so.

The revision needs to be more than a mere correction of surface errors, however, although you should do that. Try to think as well about the structure of the memo as we discussed it in class on 27 February (an introduction, the use of hierarchy and parallelism, and familiar-to-new order). Take this opportunity to see the assignment in a new light and incorporate class discussion. Then turn in the original assignment with your rewrite at the next class meeting.
