GOALS of the course:

* to read and appreciate important English writings of the Middle Ages and Renaissance;

* to become familiar with techniques of reading literature, especially literature from the past;

* to become comfortable with historical and cultural issues of England from about A. D. 800-1700;

* to provide a foundation for other English courses;

* to improve reading, writing, analytic, and speaking skills.
