My Expectations of You as Student in the Course

I expect you to come to class each day with the relevant text(s) prepared for class discussion.
I expect you to make it to class on time and to remain in your seat (rather than walking in and out of the classroom: I am not a TV).
I expect you to pay attention in class and not to engage in private conversations with fellow students.
I expect you to turn off your cell phones when you enter the classroom.
I expect you to inform me if you must leave class early and to sit in a front seat in order to exit with the least amount of class disruption.
I expect you to inform me promptly--preferably ahead of time--of excused absences.  E-mail is okay for this purpose.
I expect you to discuss works and issues civilly and, if you disagree with me or another student, to do so respectfully and agreeably.
I expect you to purchase the class textbooks and to read the assignments I make from them.
I expect you to turn in work on time and to do your best work at all times.
I expect you to make up missed assignments promptly.
I expect you to understand what plagiarism and/or academic dishonesty is and not to engage in such practices.
I expect you to sit for the Final Exam at its regularly scheduled time, whenever that is.
