Open Call for Submissions for Film, Video and Multimedia Festival

June 1999

(New York, New York) - Arkipelago, a Filipino cultural organization, announces the open call for submissions for its annual film, video, and multimedia festival - Sa Pinilakang Tabing '99 (On the Silver Screen) to be held November 1999 in New York City. Now in its sixth year, Sa Pinilakang Tabing is the only annual festival on the East Coast to feature films, videos, and video installations by artists of Filipino descent. Since 1994, Arkipelago has provided an alternative space for independent film and video artists of Filipino descent to screen their works, as well as a venue for documentaries on the Philippines. Many films and videos produced in the United States and the Philippines have premiered at this annual festival. Featured artists have included Desireena Almoradie, Pablo Bautista, Veena Cabreros-Sud, Fruto Corre, Nick Deocampo, DIWA Arts, Mar Elepaño, Ernesto Foronda, Barbara Malaran, Celine Salazar Parreñas, Raymond Red, Angel Shaw, Noel Shaw, Kidlat Tahimik, and Charles Uy.

Arkipelago seeks films and videos of any length and genre, and video installation proposals by and/or about Filipinos. If the subject matter is not specifically about Filipinos and/or the Philippines, then one or more of the following production crew should be of Filipino descent-. artistic director, cinematographer, director, editor, producer, or screenwriter. Works may address culture, diaspora, history, identity, immigration, and religion, but are not limited to these issues.

Submissions guidelines: 1) works must be in VHS format for pre-screening purposes, 2) video installation artists must include 8-10 35mm slides of artwork, 3) complete submissions should include artist's resume, biography, statement(s), and synopsis of submitted work(s), 4) press information and film stills are preferred, but not necessary, 5) include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of materials. No entry fee is required.

Submissions must be received by August 1, 1999.
