Unanimously elected to membership in Royal Society of London, April 29, and admitted with waiver of customary fees. Pennsylvania Assembly passes Franklin's bill providing night watchmen and street lighting for Philadelphia on March 9. Meets George Washington, March 21, on way to Virginia on post office business. Receives honorary Master's degree from William and Mary College April 20. Elected corresponding member of Royal Society of Arts, September 1. Undertakes military inspection tour to Carlisle, Harris's Ferry, and New York, October 2-14. Along with other commissioners, confers with Delaware Indians at Easton, Pennsylvania, November 5-18.
