Designs anti-Stamp Act cartoon and sends messages during early 1766 on cards bearing design. Partnership with David Hall expires January 21, and Hall buys the shop according to terms Of 1748 partnership agreement. Examined by Committee of the Whole of House of Commons February 13 concerning the Stamp Act; Franklin's defense of American position contributes to repeal of act February 22, and establishes him as preeminent representative of American colonies. Travels to Germany with Sir John Pringle, June 15 - August 16; elected at Göttingen to Royal Academy of Sciences.
