Elected president of American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia January 2, and reelected annually until his death. Winter, Deborah Franklin suffers stroke, which impairs her memory and understanding; her health deteriorates thereafter. Joins organizers of land company to seek grants in Ohio Valley from King, hoping to sell parcels to settlers. Grandson Benjamin Franklin Bache born August 12. Appointed agent by New Jersey House of Representatives, November 8 (serves until March 1775). November 29, writes Strahan a major statement of American position intended for private circulation to Cabinet and selected members of Parliament.
