Conclusions

Illiteracy presents unique problems that require unique solutions. After all, we are all supposed to have learned to read in Elementary School. How should we fix a problem that wasn't supposed to exist? Why didn't these people get help earlier?

It's always easy to get outraged that something didn't happen according to plan. It is also easy to blame the person(s) involved. But what does that accomplish?

In order to fix the problem of adult illiteracy, we, the literates, must take charge and recognize that we can make a difference is someone else's life. They need our help.

I've provided links to some national literacy organizations on the "What you can do" page. Please surf on over to the sites on that page, so that you can help eliminate the problem. It's one more step to making everyone's life better.
