Welcome to The Literacy Environment

This is the source for many answers to your questions regarding adult literacy in America. My name is Len and I will be happy to show you the problems and solutions that the printed word has exposed. The information available on this topic is vast, spanning more than one hundred related books in the University of Delaware's Morris Library, and many articles in magazines and news journals in the past year. It affects us all, but sometimes in such a subtle manner we don't even know about the problem.

The links on the left correspond to the different sections of this site. This article is intended to be read starting from "Main Page", which is where you are now, and following each of the links down to "Conclusion." I set the site up this way because it's easier to click than it is to scroll. The site is also more manageable this way. Because of the few shortcomings of the HyperText Markup Language (HTML), some formatting problems have been encountered. I have dealt with them the best ways possible for my HTML experience.

At the very end of each of the next six sequential pages are some poll questions for my research. If you would please answer them honestly, it would benefit me greatly. Thank you.

Note: From here on out, I will be referring to those who cannot read as "Illiterates" and those who can as "Literates." To some, these definitions may seem vulgar and inhumane, as if I was calling people objects. This is not my intention and I wish only to make sure you understand this.
