Students will
not accept the fact of their college going dry (Cashin 12). In many
situations this thought has led to severe disruption and riot. Students
are more than willing to stand up and fight for their right to drink on
campus. In 1998 there were at least nine alcohol-related “riots”
on college campuses, the largest being at Michigan State. Michigan
State saw protest from the students when they banned the use of alcohol
at the school’s traditional tailgate party (Lizza 12). At Washington
State, students attacked police officers with rocks and beer cans because
of the recent ban of alcohol at fraternities. At the University of
Connecticut, students vandalized and set fire to twenty-seven police cars
during an annual weekend tradition of partying (Lizza 12).
