    ​A comparatist, Richard Pierre earned his Ph.D at the University of Michigan, where he was a fellow at both the Sweetland Center for Writing and the Institute for the Humanities. He studies poetics, translation, and the environmental humanities, with particular emphasis on intersections of modern German, Russian, and American literatures. He enjoys teaching a range of courses in these areas as well as academic writing.

    His book manuscript is titled "Lyric Petrologies: Languages of Stone in Twentieth-Century German and Russian Poetry," and he has written essays and translations for venues including Words Without Borders, Seminar, and PMLA.
