Assignments - Different Sources, Same Event

Different Sources, Same Event

Project:

This assignment should be 3-4 pages. Choose a current or historical event you would like to research. Then, using bound journals, Lexis-Nexis, or another pre-approved database, find three magazine or newspaper articles (if you prefer, one of these sources can be a televised report). Begin by briefly summarizing the event as objectively as possible. This should be only one paragraph. Then, compare and contrast each of the reports, highlighting the ways they create a different picture of the same event.

  • What specifics do they include or not include?
  • Does this information change the reader's overall reception of the event?
  • What type of language do they use?
  • Does it carry a negative or positive connotation?

To successfully complete this project, be sure to choose an event of contention. You must also be very careful when choosing your reports. Be sure you can prove they differ significantly from one another. To be eligible for full credit, you must include all three reports along with your paper
