Transfer Credit
Click here for information on ENGL 110 transfer.
The English Department assigns a UD equivalent for only ENGLISH courses, or for courses taken in other departments such as Theater or Film that approximate course offerings by the English Department. Students may obtain approval for transfer credit either before or after the course has been taken. For approval, you will need to gather and submit the following materials.
TRANSFER-CREDIT FOR COURSES ALREADY TAKEN:
1) Transfer-Credit-Post Admissions Form. This form is available at the Student Services Building. You are to fill in all the necessary information EXCEPT for the equivalent UD course. If you are expecting transfer credit for a particular UD course, identify the course by number and name on a separate sheet of paper. This form is neither necessary nor appropriate for re-evaluation of a course that has already been transferred to UD.
2) A photocopy of the course description in its official catalogue. Identify the university which offered the course. If it is available on-line, you can submit a print-out of this.
3) A course syllabus. This is not required, but it can determine whether or not a specific course equivalent gets approved.
4) A separate sheet. List on it your name, your social security number, your local phone number, and e-mail address.
TRANSFER CREDIT FOR A COURSE TO-BE-TAKEN:
For this you will need #2, #4, and #3, if possible.
MATERIALS SHOULD BE PLACED IN AN ENVELOPE AND ADDRESSED TO:
Professor Thomas Pauly
Associate Chair, English
Deliver the envelope to: Main office
English Department
212 Memorial Hall
The transfer process usually takes a week. You should be notified when the request has been approved or if additional information is required. Approved requests will be left at the main desk of the English Department. Should the student receive no notification, he/she should inquire. Be sure to retain photocopies of all materials submitted in case the original request should miscarry.
Should you have any questions about your course or your request, you may schedule a meeting with the associate chair. This can be done in 205 Memorial or by calling 831-2363. You should not expect approval during this meeting.
ENGLISH 110 Transfer Credit and Exemption Requests
To petition in advance of taking a course elsewhere to have that course transfer to UD as the equivalent of ENGL110, students should bring a copy of the other school's full catalogue along with the TRANSFER CREDIT-POST ADMISSION FORM (available at Student Services) to Professor John Jebb, 215 Memorial Hall.
To appeal a transfer credit award regarding ENGL110, students should submit the following items to Professor Jebb. Professor Jebb requests that students submit their materials in person unless there are previously negotiated special arrangements to leave them.
1) Copies of three essays written in college courses. At least one essay (probably more than one) should be research-based with a bibliography. (Students will receive their essays back).
2) A copy of the unofficial UD transcript, which is available through UD Student Services.
3) A copy of the Transfer Credit Evaluation Sheet, which is available from students' advisors.
4) A transcript from the previous school. A catalogue from the previous school is also helpful to submit.
5) A letter giving the background and reasons for the request sent to the address below. In the letter, students should include their address, telephone number, student ID number, and their University of Delaware email address.
Questions about these procedures should be directed to Professor Jebb using the phone number or email address listed below.
