Place: North Tent - in front of Gore and DuPont Halls - on the North Green(Potentially)
The faculty and staff of the English Department are proud to celebrate the achievements of our graduating students. We invite families and friends to join us on this special day! Tickets are not necessary; students may bring as many guests as they like. This event is separate from the University Commencement held on Saturday.
The English Department Convocation is one of several ceremonies scheduled in the Blue Tent, on Friday, May 29th. Time between the ceremonies is tight and the schedule will not be delayed to accommodate late arrivals. Procession will begin in Gore Hall at 3:30 sharp. Students should plan to arrive promptly between 2:45-3:15pm, to line up for the procession. Guests should proceed into North Tent and seat themselves. There will be a section of seats roped off for graduates but all other seating will be open on a first-come, first-served basis (Tickets are NOT required). Ushers will be on hand to direct students and guests to their correct locations, bathrooms, and concession areas. There will be a reception immediately following the ceremony in the Trabant Multipurpose Rooms (A, B and C).
The English Department Convocation is expected to last about one hour. Names of students attending the ceremony will be announced as they cross the stage. Before the ceremony, students will fill out a card with their name and degree details. As students approach the stage, a GradImages photographer will take individual portraits and students will hand their cards to a department representative to read aloud. Another photograph will be taken as each student crosses the stage and one more when they get walk off the stage. Photo proofs will be emailed to students within a few days but there is no obligation to purchase the photographs. The stage is handicap accessible and a set of seats will be reserved for handicapped guests. Please notify the Department by May 1 if you will require other special accommodations such as a sign language interpreter.
PLEASE NOTE: All graduating students must be dressed in official academic regalia in order to participate in Convocation and Commencement. Regalia is available for purchase in person at the Barnes and Noble UD Bookstore and online through Herff-Jones.
