Deborah Howlett is an instructor in journalism. A former national reporter for USA Today, she has covered presidential campaigns, the murder trial of NFL legend OJ Simpson, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. She has worked as a digital media consultant to nonprofit and advocacy organizations as well as serving as press secretary to a former governor of New Jersey. She is interested in the technological evolution of journalism and the effect of emerging digital and social media on reporting. She has a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Oregon (1984) and was a Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellow at the University of Michigan (2000).
