Biography
Jiwon's teaching and research interests are in writing pedagogy, nineteenth-century British and Global literatures, and climate change narratives. As a woman of color and a literary scholar, Jiwon is interested in developing classroom strategies and assignments that cultivate a safe space where students can genuinely react to and respect a text, if it delights, confounds, or even offends them. She is especially enthusiastic about complex and diverse histories of literary representations, and she encourages her students to respond to literature in thoughtful and creative ways that challenge their own paradigms and preconceptions of other cultures and histories. Jiwon feels extremely fortunate and thrilled to be joining the UD Department of English as a Postdoctoral Fellow. When she is not teaching or writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, practicing yoga, exploring beautiful trails, and, whenever she can, spoiling her dog.
