Laura Helton, assistant professor of English, has been awarded a summer stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities to work on her book project, “The Making of African-American Archives, 1910-1950.” Helton, who had an earlier career as an archivist and who specializes in American literature and history of the 20th century with an emphasis on African American print culture and public humanities, is examining the emergence of African American archives and libraries. Also a faculty member in UD’s Center for Material Culture Studies, she is one of the organizers of a conference, “Black Bibliographia: Print/Culture/Art,” which will be held on campus April 26-27.
