Biography
Helena
Kim is a PhD candidate in the Department of English. In her MA thesis,
she wrote about Mary Shelley’s post-apocalyptic narrative
The Last Man (1826) to question the problem of dwelling in the
Anthropocene. Currently, she examines the late eighteenth- to
mid-nineteenth century American fiction with a particular focus on
transoceanic dialogues. Her broader research interests include
material culture studies, ecocriticism, and gender studies. Since 2018,
she has been working in the graduate student group ThingStor, a
digitized material culture database that catalogs objects in literature
and visual art.
