Lois Potter retired in 2008 as Ned B. Allen Professor of English. Before coming to UD in 1991, she had taught in the Universities of Aberdeen, Scotland, and Leicester, England. She received her BA from Bryn Mawr College and her PhD from Cambridge University, where she was a Marshall Scholar. She has also been a visiting professor at Paris III/Sorbonne Nouvelle and Tsuda College, Tokyo. Her publications include A Preface to Milton, Twelfth Night (in Macmillan's Text and Performance series), Othello (in the University of Manchester's Shakespeare in Performance series), Secret Rites and Secret Writing: Royalist Literature, 1641-1660, the Arden edition of The Two Noble Kinsmen, and, most recently,The Life of William Shakespeare (in Wiley-Blackwell's Critical Biography series). She is also a frequent reviewer of plays. Edited collections include two books on Robin Hood, the subject of an international conference that she ran at the University of Delaware in 2005. Both are published by the UD Press, of whose board she was a member for most of her years at UD.
